- Hi all-
-
- I downloaded xwindemo from cica last week and am still at a loss as
- to how to get it to make a meaingfull connection. I am running
- Trumpet Winsock 1.00 #18, which works great with other clients, such
- as qvt, etc. Can anyone tell me what arguments they pass to xwindemo
- to get an XDMCP session going (on a Sun, for example)? I would even
- be glad to know how someone gets an rsh to work. I can at least
- tickle the remote machine with rsh or rexec, but I have never been
- able to get a window open to it. Please excuse my ignorance, and
- thanks in advance for your help.

- I am looking for wintalk, which I assume is a sockets based talk progam. I 've

- Also it doesn't seem to be at cica, sunsite, gatekeeper, etc.

- Try diabling CSLIP in the SETUP dialog. It could be that the other end of
- your serial connection is unable to deal with CSLIP. Alternatively check
- that it is using CSLIP. I found that I got hangs in the past when trying to
- use CSLIP when connected to a SLIP server that didn't support CSLIP.

- Subject: Running packet driver software with Banyan Vines
-
- Hi. I'm having a problem getting packet driver software to run with
- Banyan Vines. We have the FTP software PC/TCP TCP/IP implementation,
- with the ibanyan kernel (and only the ibanyan kernel) available, and
- that works, and winsock apps work, but I would like to try using
- some packet driver apps. So far, I've tried using a raw packet driver,
- without loading any Banyan drivers, and that doesn't work. I've tried
- using the banpkt shim over the top of the Banyan drivers, and that
- doesn't work. I've tried using a packet driver with the Cabletron
- Banyan driver, and while Banyan works, the packet driver software won't
- As I type this, I have the same Cabletron/packet driver combination
- running, only I added pktmux to see if that would help. Again, no luck.
- I'm sure I have the router, name server, net mask, etc. set up right,
- because I'm using the same values for those as for the PC/TCP software,
- which I know works. It seems like the only way that the Vines servers
- will route is if the IP packets are tunneled through Vines packets.
- The servers seem to reject straight IP packets. BTW, I've been using PC
- Gopher II and the Trumpet DOS news reader as test software.
-
- If anyone has had better luck getting packet driver software to work
- with Banyan Vines, please let me know. I've run out of things to try,
- except for NDIS drivers, which I'd rather not mess with, but if other
- people have had to turn to NDIS drivers to get packet driver software to
- work with Vines, then let me know, since I may have to try that anyway.
-
- Please post responses or send me e-mail. Thank you for your help.

-
- Yes. Not all nicknames need to appear (necessarily) on the New Message
- To submenu; these can be used for just the most *frequent* recipients of
- your email... e.g., your boss, your dissertation advisor, etc. I keep
- nicknames for many mailing lists that save a lot of time when I use them,
- but I don't use them that often and don't want them cluttering up my
- New Message To submenu.
-
- Anyway, when you pull up the Nicknames dialog, you'll notice that all
- nicknames that have a checkmark by them will appear on the New Message To
- submenu, while those that *don't* have the checkmark will *not* appear
- there. To place or remove a checkmark, double-click on the nickname.

- Subject: WinQVT/Net etc. problems
-
- Hi...last night when I retired my computer, all of my windows clients were
- working fine. However, today I attempted to telnet after establishing a slip

- changes since last night. Any ideas? Also, Trumpet hangs and the FTP client
- is very, very slow. I'd appreciate any feedback. Thanks.
